Have you contemplated having your own website but do not know where to start ?
Is your current web site so out of date it embarrasses you ?
Is your current webmaster on top of your website ?
Web Pages by Dvorak
[Himmlisch Standard Schnauzers] can help you ! I will get your 'DOG GONE' site,
simple or fancy, up or updated on the Internet. I have been associated with the
world of dogs for over 20 years and have done programming for a living for over
25 years. I know dog shows, I know dogs, and I know the Internet.
I can create your WINNING site - HTML files and pictures and links, fancy graphics, etc - in a matter
of days. You select your domain name - www.YourDomainName.com - and I will have
it registered.
If you are in the world of dogs and you wish to increase your exposure, what better
way to do this than with your own website.
- A website is the best way to publicize your latest accomplishments,
advertise upcoming litters, announce a new litter, publish YOUR opinions, etc.
- As a handler, a website that is registered with the major search engines
will definitely increase your exposure in the dog world and "toot your horn" about those winnings.
- For the part time hobbyist of dog arts and crafts, dog supplies, etc. a
website will get you that extra attention !
Give me a call or an e-mail and we can discuss the details about your personalized website. I can meet with you over your lunch hour, at a local dog show, or at your home (in the greater Denver area). Long distance development is not a problem.

Here are other web sites that I developed and a couple that I maintain:

Do I seem to be inexpensive ?
Yes, my costs are much less than someone who advertises in a computer journal or
in the Yellow Pages. My rates are less because:
- I am still new, even though I am a part time web developer professionally,
so I will lower my rates to attract business.
- I work out of my home so I do not have the overhead of an office.
- I have two computers that I own out-right and have no payments to make on them.
- My past profession is a software engineer. I know programming and software design.
- My current profession is a web site developer. I know what is required to design and build your website to make it work.
- I know web browsers - they are all different !
- I own all of the tools for web/internet development.
I will do the following:
-
Develop your web pages, that will include:
- - graphics - scan any pictures
- - javascripts - they say date, time, hello, goodbye, and other fancy things
- - file transfers to your site to initially load and update your web pages
- - PHP - dynamic web page content
- - MySQL - most popular database for web applications
-
Set up your web site on a host [the place where your files live]
-
Arrange for domain name transfer, if necessary
- - arrange to transfer your files from the old site to the new site
-
Provide you with a final cost before your site construction begins
The web hosting company that I will use:
- Will have your files set up on a UNIX server
- Will permit your web site to grow, if necessary
Copyrights [they belong to you] - I will be your webmaster.
The costs listed for your domain name registration vary depending on the company that registers your name. Domain names can be transferred [if you currently have one].
There are "free" web hosts out there, but your users are bombarded with advertisements and pop-up ads as they peruse your web pages. The advertisements are annoying, time consuming, ugly, and in general, a pain in the ass.
Details Regarding the Construction of Your Web Site
Who am I ?
I am Roy Dvorak. My wife and I have been showing Standard Schnauzers since 1989.
We have been involved with dog shows - conformation, obedience, agility, and some
herding - since then. My background with dogs better enables me to give your website that extra something.
And I also build agility equipment on the side.
This Page of Information.
I have attempted to cover and discuss most of the details regarding the construction of
a web site and its related pages. I will be adding information to this page as time goes
on. There are some things that I may have omitted, not intentionally of course, only
because they were not on my list of things to include. Revisit this page and check for
updates.
My background.
I have been in the software industry for over 25+ years developing applications in various industries.
I published my first web page in early 1998. It was under development [ under construction as a lot of sites boast ]
for almost 4 months prior to that and it was developed on my lap top.
Yes, my early websites were developed on a Toshiba lap top and new page construction is also done on the
same lap top, before anyone sees it. I have since upgraded to an HP laptop that is running XP Home Edition - Service pack 2.
The first HP laptop has been retired and I now develop on a newer laptop running Windows Vista Home.
Why a lap top - because I can take it with me when I
travel to dog shows - no matter where they are. I run each new page through an HTML validator to make
sure the HTML code is correct. The validator is somewhat analogous to a spell checker in a word processor.
I also test each new page on Microsoft IE, Firefox,
Opera and Safari, the more popular browsers, so that the web page looks the same no matter how it is viewed.
Web Page Development.
My web page tools include,
Adobe Photo Elements 8.0
Macromedia Fireworks v3.0 and Fireworks MX
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Macromedia Flash MX 2004 - in the learning process as of June 2005
Perl -Active State Perl [ for CGI scripts ]
Graphic Workshop by Alchemy Mind Works
HTML Validator by AI Internet Solutions
FileZilla for FTP file transfers
Microsoft IE v8.0, FireFox v3.5, and Opera v9.0, Safari, AOL 9.0
Apache Personal Web Server
MySQL - database development
PHP - 'PHP' Hypertext Processor
Main Page Formats.
A basic main or home page format can consist of 2 frames - a navigation frame and a display frame.
The main navigation buttons reside and are always visible on the navigation frame. For
instance, these four buttons may include - home, contact us, biography [ rather than history ], and latest news.
If you are considering an e-commerce site and you follow a circuit of dog shows, you may wish to
consider a schedule of the shows that you will be attending.
The display frame will show the requested page.
My main or home page uses a hierarchical organization and does not use frames. However,
at the bottom of every web page, the user has the opportunity to return to the home page.
The Process - What We Do.
You tell me that you want a web page. We sit down or e-mail to discuss the format and content
of your main or home page. This is usually the most complex page on a site since all of the
navigation happens on the main page. You get to your other web pages from your main page.
A collection of web pages and associated pictures [ graphics ] make a web site. Once we have
the format and content, of the main page, we discuss any related pages. You must provide me
pictures to scan, documents, text, etc. that you want on your web site.
As the development proceeds, we can get your domain name registered and your site setup by the
hosting company. Your web site is not registered with the search engines until your site
is up and running, not before.
If you already have a web site and you do not want to change hosting companies, that is
perfectly fine. I can still update and create new pages on your existing site. You do
not have to transfer your domain name. In the list of web sites above, I took over the
maintenance of the Northern California Standard Schnauzer Club web site and Keygolde Schnauzers web site.
Since taking over these 2 sites, they have asked me to re-skin them for a completely new "look and feel".
The Process - What I Do.
Once we decide on the number of pages, number of pictures to scan, webring(s), counters,
scripts, etc and establish a cost for my work, I will develop your website. Once the
development is done, I will down load your files to my website into a special directory
for you to view. From there we can "tweak it" to your liking.
Things that are part of your web page(s) development:
- graphics - scan any pictures
- javascripts - they say date, time, hello, goodbye, and other fancy things
- file transfers to your site to initially load and update your web pages
The Process - What You Do.
You must decide what your domain name [ www.YourVeryOwnDomainName.com ] is to be.
There are several web sites that allow you to check as to whether a domain name is
already in use. All you have to do is to enter your domain name in the text box and
click their 'GO' button. You get an almost immediate response that tells you if the name is or is not in use.
Domain Names.
If you already have a web site and you do not want to change hosting company,
that is perfectly fine. I can still update and create new pages on your existing site.
You do not have to transfer your domain name. Everything stays as is.
As the term implies, domain name transfer just changes an "address", so to speak,
so that when the user types the www.YourRegularDomainName.com, they still see your web page
the way they have always seen it. You do not have to re-register your domain name.
Your web site files are in a new location, accessed by that new "address" but the
user sees no difference from the prior setup.
I do e-commerce [ e.g. shopping carts ] development.
The Process - What I Do NOT Do.
I do not provide development for Macintosh/Apple computers. However, because HTML, Javascript, Java,
Perl/CGI, and PHP are platform independent, what I develop on a PC running Windows XP or Vista
will also run on a PC developed by Apple Computers or a PC running Windows XP.
Updates.
As time goes on, you will want to update one or all of your web pages. I change $20.00
per hour [ in one (1) hour increments ] to update your web page that I developed. For example,
you may request several minor updates over several weeks, but each update may take
anywhere from 7 to 20 minutes. I maintain a running tab for you of the minutes that I spend
on your updates. When that bill approaches $100.00 then I will send you a bill for the time.
If you
want me to assist you with updating an existing web site, one that I did not develop, then
my rates are $20.00 per hour [ in one (1) hour increments ]
